Titolo: The challenges of biodiversity loss for banks and financial stability
Abstract: This research analyzes the complex problem of biodiversity loss from a financial perspective, highlighting how this phenomenon has become a systemic issue central to economic sustainability and financial stability. After examining existing regulations and initiatives concerning biodiversity and their impact on the financial sector, the research explores inefficiencies in conservation financing methods, emphasizing the need to mobilize private capital to fill the gap left by public support. The link between corporate governance and the management of biodiversity and environmental risks is explored, showing that gender diversity on boards of directors positively influences banks in assessing these risks when granting financing. In addition, using the Corporate Biodiversity Footprint, the research demonstrates how companies' impact on biodiversity can negatively affect their firm value, particularly in contexts most exposed to biodiversity risks. The results highlight the urgency of integrating biodiversity considerations into financial decision-making processes, helping to promote sustainable and responsible investment
