Titolo: Integrating innovation and sustainability in public governance: a multi-level analysis of Smart Cities for Public Value creation
Abstract: The research explores the synergy between innovation and sustainability in public governance, focusing on smart cities as catalysts for public value. By adopting a multi-level and multi-methods approach, it addresses several gaps in the literature. The study begins with a systematic literature review of the analyzed topics, laying the theoretical foundations for the subsequent empirical studies. The investigation then expands to the international level, introducing a scalable model for measuring public value perception and exploring how e-Government can foster public value and reduce inequalities across Mediterranean countries. Moving to the national context, the analysis assesses the progress of smart city initiatives in Italian cities and their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. Finally, a sectoral perspective is introduced by exploring the impact of ESG practices and public ownership on the productivity of Italian local transportation firms. By integrating these perspectives, the study offers valuable insights, advances theoretical understanding and provides recommendations for policymakers and practitioners.
